Why should I start the application process for foreign universities early?
There is no perfect formula for gaining admission to a university abroad, but the key to success is to start preparations early. Why?
- Allocate time to upgrade your profile
If you start working with Univibes early, you will know:
- what requirements the program you’re applying for has
- the sources where to find volunteering programs and internships
- what to improve and how to demonstrate your better self in the application
- The application process to foreign universities takes time – from 3 months to 1 year
Univibes clients are guided by an admissions counselor throughout all the steps of the application process.
- A limited number of seats for international students
Most universities have a limited number of seats allocated for international students. The earlier you apply, the better. Our counselors usually contact the Admissions Office directly and clarify this nuance.
- The Visa process and accommodation search take time
As an international student, you would need to get a student visa before the academic year starts. Suppose you apply in the “Early application” period. In this case, you will know the outcome earlier and have enough time to prepare your documents for your visa and find accommodation in a new country.
My GPA is quite low. Can I get admitted to a university abroad?
Yes. This factor shouldn’t stop you from chasing your dreams. There is always a chance. Some universities do not require a high GPA score. Univibes advisors will help you find programs that you can apply to with your GPA. Advisors will also help you upgrade your profile so that you have other achievements to demonstrate to the Admissions Office.
I am not fluent in English but want to study abroad. What should I do?
You must be fluent in English if you apply for English-taught programs. All applicants who are not native speakers of English or haven’t previously studied in English must provide an English proficiency language certificate – such as IELTS or TOEFL.
If you are not fluent in English yet, you can apply for language courses first.
What universities are the easiest to get into and in what countries?
It is impossible to compare countries in terms of where it is easier to get into a university as a foreign student. There are universities that have lower competition because they may be state-funded or have more available seats for international students. This kind of universities are mostly located in Greece, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Spain.
Can I choose a different major for Master’s studies?
This is possible not in all countries and universities. For example, German universities are quite strict with changing majors, and they require applicants to have a certain amount of credits in a major subject. In Italy, universities are more loyal. It is necessary to research this issue carefully before you apply.
Can I apply for online programs / language courses abroad? Are there any scholarships?
Yes, you can apply for online programs and language courses with Univibes. Unfortunately, there are no scholarships for these types of educational activities.
Can I apply to universities in multiple countries?
Yes, you can.
In this case, you will work with several advisors, and this, hence, affects the final price pf our services. Each Univibes advisor usually specializes on one country.
What is duration of studies?
Bachelor’s degree programs, as a rule, last for 3-4 years; Master’s – for 1-2 years.
Documents, visa, letters
Is TOEFL / IELTS required and where can I take these exams?
A language proficiency certificate is an important criteria when you apply to a foreign university. If you are not a native speaker of English, you must provide IELTS (6.5 and higher) or TOEFL (80 and higher) certificate.
The certificate is sent along with the rest set of supporting documents. Some universities may allow you to send the certificate later, but you should ask universities directly about it.
You should get a language certificate as early as possible. Visit the official websites to learn more about the place, date, and requirements: ielts.ru, toefl.ru.
I haven’t received my graduation certificate yet. What should I do if it is required for application for a program?
You should contact the educational institution you are currently studying at and ask for a certificate confirming that you are studying there and that you are graduating this year. You will aslo need to ask for transcripts with your current grades.
Who should I ask to write a letter of recommendation?
You can ask your employer (boss/team leader) or teachers. Make sure you know the requirements that university you are applying for has.
When should I apply for a student visa? Can my visa get rejected?
You must apply for a visa only after you receive a program offer. It is almost impossible to get a visa refusal, if you get a university offer, provide all the necessary documents in a proper way and prove that you have enough financial means to live in a new country by providing you bank statement or the evidence of winning a scholarship.
Scholarships and grants
What should I do to win a scholarship or a grant?
If you have high GPA, work/internship and volunteering experience, participated in conferences and published articles – your chances of getting a scholarship are quite high.
Is it a requirement to have volunteering experience to win a scholarship or a grant?
It depends on the requirements of a certain scholarship program. Many scholarship programs do not have such a requirement, but volunteer experience id always a plus and will only maximize your chances and make your application stand out from the rest.
Housing and relocation
What are average living expenses? Will I get accomodation?
It depends on the country and the city you live and study in. Most universities have dorms for students. The cost of living in a student dorm varies from €400/month to €1,000 per month.
Can I work while studying?
In most countries, yes. Undergraduate students are allowed to work for up to 15 hours per week; Master’s students – up to 20 hours per week. The wage usually allows students to fully cover their housing and food expenses.
Do universities help with employment?
