Higher education in Korea

Higher education in Korea consists of colleges and universities, offering various degree programs. Students can pursue a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a PhD program, which may be extended if the thesis is not completed within the standard timeframe. Semesters in Korean universities typically last four months. Both undergraduate and graduate students have the flexibility to choose their own subjects. Enrollment for undergraduate and graduate programs occurs in both fall and spring semesters. The application period for the fall semester starts in early March and continues through May, while for the spring semester, it runs from October to January.

Tuition fees per semester can range from $1,500 to $21,000. The estimated monthly living expenses, including housing, amount to approximately $1,200.

Global Korean Scholarship is a program that provides graduate and doctoral studies, as well as the language year of Korean universities.

It includes:

• round-trip air ticket 
• Full tuition fee 
•  medical insurance
• cost of language training
• allowance on arrival
• monthly allowance for a master student in the amount of $850

There are two ways to apply for a scholarship: Embassy and University Track. In the first case, it is not necessary to submit documents to the university separately. If the competitive selection for the embassy track is not passed, you can send the documents direct to the university again. 

If the level of the Korean language is not enough to study in the major, the student studies in language courses. After a year, a master’s student must pass the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) for at least level 5. The language year is covered by a scholarship.

The deadline for submitting documents for Master’s degree students till March 2, 2023, but the deadlines often change. They are announced on the website of the Korean Embassy in the country of student residence.
